Over the past six months The BPC Cares youth committee has raised approximately $1,300.00 for the Coalition for the Homeless! There are 300 campers this year and we have purchased supplies so that each camper will have a little more of what anyone needs and something fun as well.
With the money collected the Youth Committee purchased two pairs
of underwear, one pair of socks, a colorful take along pillow and a deck of
cards for each camper.

| The Coalition's Camp Homeward Bound, located in the pristine wilderness of Harriman State Park in upstate New York, is the country's first summer camp designed specifically for homeless children and offers the ideal respite from the uncertainty and despair of shelter life. |
|
|
The camp has a ratio of one counselor for every two campers, ensuring that children receive the personal attention and care that they need. Camp Homeward Bound offers a popular and proven array of educational, recreational and creative programs to over 500 children every summer.
|
Campers between the ages of 6 and 17 improve their literacy and computer skills, learn about science, explore nature, create art and music, and participate in non-competitive sports.

Camp Homeward Bound is certified as an alternative summer experience by the New York City Board of Education and serves as a successful model for the Board of Education's Break-Aways Partnership, which teams schools and summer camps to enhance children's literacy skills.
